Job Purpose
To ensure safe, reliable, and efficient utility operations that support uninterrupted production, minimize downtime, and optimize energy and resource use.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of all utility systems including power supply, generators, compressors, boilers/hot water systems, chillers, HVAC, water supply, wastewater, and compressed air systems
- Monitor and control electricity, water, fuel, gas, and compressed air consumption.
- Ensure continuous and reliable utility support to production and auxiliary departments
- Respond promptly to utility-related breakdowns, diagnose faults, and ensure timely corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Monitor and control electricity, water, fuel, gas, and compressed air consumption
- Track utility KPIs such as energy consumption, utility downtime, and system efficiency
- Conduct routine safety inspections and risk assessments on utility installations
- Supervise utility technicians, assign daily tasks, and monitor performance
- Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and competency development for the utility team
- Maintain accurate records for maintenance activities, breakdowns, spare parts usage, and utility consumption.
- Coordinate closely with Production, Quality, and Operations teams to align utility availability with production plans
- Ensure utilities meet required parameters for food safety, quality, and process reliability
Qualifications and Experience
- HND in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 3 -5 years of minimum experience.
- Proven exposure to at least two or more utility systems: Chillers & HVAC, Water treatment & wastewater systems.
Technical Competencies
- Working knowledge of chillers, HVAC systems and cooling systems units.
- Knowledge of water supply, water treatment, and wastewater systems.
- Ability to develop, execute, and supervise preventive maintenance schedules for utility equipment. Strong competence in skills assessment, training plans, and succession planning
- Experience in breakdown management and restoration of utilities under time pressure
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and control schematics
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and safety inspections on utility systems
- Familiarity with fire protection systems and emergency response procedures
